Vision: A society free of neglect and discrimination that leads to homelessness, poverty, hunger and diseases among older persons. 
Purpose/objectives:

1. Create awareness about ageing and promote care for older persons.
2. Create and strengthen a community-based resource system for social and health care for older persons.
3. Create and promote awareness of the impact of HIV/AIDS among older persons.
4. Enable older persons to improve their self-esteem, associative strengths, resourcefulness, and responsibilities in the community.
5. Advance the improvement of shelter for older persons.
6. Establish vocational training skills for orphans.

Background: Care for the Elderly Initiative (CAFEI) is an NGO fully registered at the national level with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs under the Registrar of Companies and with the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the NGO Board. CAFEI is also registered with all the relavant authorities in Kumi.

Main activities:

- mobilisation and sensitisation of older persons          
- distribution of materials: blankets, food, sugar
- income generating projects: pigs, poultry, goats
- school subsidies for orphan children
- vocational training for youth of grandparents
- house repair for older persons
- defending legal rights of older persons

Priorities for the future: 1. Improve the welfare of older persons in Kumi and in Uganda as a whole
2. Engage government, donor agencies and policy makers to work with NNOPU
